We have been making wedges for a long time. Standard wedges as well as Risley Prisms (wedges). This particular unit is one we make in high volume. Thanks to our team and the tooling they designed, this product goes through production flawlessly.
It is a 1″ diameter using Corning FS 7980 material with an 8 Degree Wedge. To start, we approach the process as we would a normal window. Double side polishing works best. In order to get a great surface figure and quality we have to go to pitch. Then comes specialized tooling to create the wedge and Voila! The parts are done. 40-20; <10 Angstroms RMS; 1/4 wave.
